How to Grow Papaya Plants
Land Preparation
Select well-drained fertile soil.
Dig pits of 1.5 ft × 1.5 ft × 1.5 ft.
Mix:
• 10–15 kg Farm Yard Manure (FYM)
• 500 g Neem Cake
• 100 g Single Super Phosphate (SSP)
Plant the sapling carefully and water immediately.
Plant Spacing
• Commercial Farming: 6 ft × 6 ft
• High Density: 5 ft × 5 ft
Approximately 1,200–1,500 plants can be planted per acre.
Watering Schedule
0–1 Month
• Water daily
1–3 Months
• Water on alternate days
3–6 Months
• Water once every 2 days
After 6 Months
• Water every 3–4 days
Avoid waterlogging as papaya roots are sensitive to excess moisture.
Fertilizer Schedule
1 Month
• 2 kg FYM per plant
2 Months
• 5 kg FYM + 50 g Urea
3 Months
• 5 kg FYM + 50 g DAP + 50 g MOP
4 Months & Above
• 10 kg FYM + 100 g Urea + 100 g DAP + 100 g MOP
